Psalm 136:23-26

23 Who remembered us in our low estate,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting,
24 And has rescued us from our adversaries,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting;
25 Who gives food to all flesh,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
26 Give thanks to the God of heaven,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

As this psalm concludes, we are continually reminded that God’s lovingkindness is everlasting. But now it gets really personal. First, it was the creation of the world, and then it was (a snippet of) the history of Israel. I think it likely that part of their trouble was that was where so many stopped–there are other reasons too, but that certainly doesn’t help.

It’s a theme I see from some folks online, as they confuse being religious with being a Christian. Not all who darken the doors of a church will hear “well done…” in the end. Not even those who shout Christian memes from the rooftops are guaranteed a home in God’s kingdom. God’s love is deeply personal, as we see in the alternate lines.

He remembers us in our low estate, not just when we are doing great, not just when we have it all together. He sees us especially in the low places, when our enemies surround us, and when we are in desperate need. As the popular song says, “There’s no place that His love can’t reach…” It might be better said, “There’s no place that His love is greater…” than when we are in “low estate”.

When our heart is broken, crushed, and we are being trampled upon by this world… God is there. Whether you’ve committed your life to Him or not, He is right there. He is “no respecter of persons”, so it doesn’t matter your race, ethnicity, disabilities, etc. God is always ready to carry you through the storm–whether it ends today or continues for years, He is willing to walk each step with you.

No one else has that kind of love, and you won’t find healing anywhere else. Take Him at his word, His lovingkindness didn’t stop yesterday, and it won’t stop tomorrow. It is eternal, and eternally yours for the asking. Let him pour it out, like healing salve, and let the healing begin.
