89 Forever, O Lord,
Your word [ao]is settled in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness continues [ap]throughout all generations;
You established the earth, and it stands.
91 They stand this day according to Your ordinances,
For all things are Your servants.
92 If Your law had not been my delight,
Then I would have perished in my affliction.
93 I will never forget Your precepts,
For by them You have [aq]revived me.
94 I am Yours, save me;
For I have sought Your precepts.
95 The wicked wait for me to destroy me;
I shall diligently consider Your testimonies.
96 I have seen [ar]a limit to all perfection;
Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Too many times, we sell God short, and we settle for serving a “small god”. But the psalmist knew better, His word is settled (firm) forever and His faithfulness continues through all generations. God established the earth, and it still stands, and will do so until He says otherwise. And finally, in v. 91, all things serve and obey God, there is no higher authority or greater power.
So when we are afflicted, His instruction saves and revives us. If He won’t, then no one can… but He will and already has made a way of salvation for each of us. Better than that, God doesn’t just get us in the door and then leave us on our own. He has already seen the end of our days (on earth), and has prepared each step in advance.
The buck doesn’t stop with you, it stops with Him, which is an incredible relief. Sometimes we feel like the weight of the world is on our shoulders, but it ought not to be, because He holds it all already. Just as God doesn’t allow us to be tempted beyond our capacity, He also doesn’t give us more than we can handle in (any) other areas. Of course, if we’re trying to just get by, that may very well be more than we think we can, but He knows our limits best.
As the psalmist noted, the wicked will wait and scheme and make their plans. Don’t try and outsmart them, or fight them on your own. Stay clear of that trap, or you’ll be no better off, trying to do it your way. Do what God has asked of you, and let Him deal with those who won’t. There is a limit to everything in this world, but God’s vision goes beyond all of it. Trust His strength and vision for your life. Let God’s word be the light on your path as you take each step. It’s big enough, because He is big enough.
