44 You have also saved me from the contentions of my people;
You have kept me as head of the nations;
A people I have not known serve me.
45 Foreigners pretend to obey me;
As soon as they hear, they obey me.
46 Foreigners lose heart,
And [x]come trembling out of their fortresses.
47 The Lord lives, and blessed be my Rock;
And exalted be [y]my God, the rock of my salvation,
48 The God who executes vengeance for me,
And brings down peoples under me,
49 Who also brings me out from my enemies;
You also raise me above those who rise up against me;
You rescue me from the violent person.
50 Therefore I will [z]give thanks to You, Lord, among the nations,
And I will sing praises to Your name.
51 He is a tower of [aa]salvation to His king,
And shows favor to His anointed,
To David and his [ab]descendants forever.”
At first glance, it might look like God is on David’s side and has chosen to prosper him as king. But in reality, these things went David’s way because he was going God’s way.
David trusted God. He trusted God’s plan, and when it was all said and done, he could thank God for being faithful, because God is always faithful.
Am I? Are you? Being faithful is not an easy road, it certainly wasn’t all roses and sunshine for David. He lost sons, was betrayed multiple times, by both family and friends. Yet through it all, David chose to follow God, and he was not abandoned in the deepest tragedies.
Every day, we have a choice: to go our own way, or to follow God’s plan. Guess which one is always better? But somehow we struggle with that choice. The same choice faced by Adam & Eve. They failed, many have failed, we have all failed. But each day God asks the question again: will you go My way today?
